**Brent at $102.82 is a diplomacy-driven dip against a 16% backwardated curve, a $94 distillate crack and falling US crude stocks, so keep buying it above $100.80.**

## Key levels

- Brent: support 100.8, resistance 105.25
- WTI: support 93.59, resistance 100

## Price Action & Technicals

> Buy dips into $100.80; a daily close below it is the only technical signal that would change the view.

**Brent settled at $102.82, down 8.15% over five days, and has broken below yesterday's $105.25 close.** The feed prints a -12.60% one-session move, but that does not reconcile with $105.25, which implies about -2.3%. Treat the -12.6% as a roll or data artifact and trade the level, not the percentage. WTI at **$95.18** (-7.65% over 5d) sits just above its 5d low of $93.59. Brent's 5d range is **$100.80 to $114.29**. The sell-off is headline-driven: Trump bombs Qeshm, talks peace, Tehran dismisses the reports, and the tape whipsaws. **OVX at 61.69 (+11.3%)** confirms this is a fear-priced, thin-conviction move, not a repricing of fundamentals. Brent-WTI is **$7.64**, a wide premium that keeps US barrels moving to export.

## Supply & Inventories

> Diesel is the tightest link; stay long distillate crack exposure while the curve prices relief that physical flows are not delivering.

**Physical tightness is not easing.** API reported a **5.267M bbl crude draw** for the week ending Oct 30, extending a run the market is calling a freefall. The last EIA print (week of Oct 23) showed crude stocks at **410.6M bbl (-1.9M)**, refinery utilization at **92.8%** and exports at **4.9M bbl/d**. Cushing is at **27.0M bbl (-0.6M w/w)**, only the 33rd percentile versus ten years, so there is no glut at the WTI delivery point. Gasoline demand is weak at **8.4M bbl/d (14th percentile)**, but distillate demand is strong at **4.2M bbl/d (79th percentile)**. The product complex is where the stress sits. The **distillate crack is $94.01/bbl**, the 3-2-1 is **$49.69**, and the gasoline crack is **$27.53**. Oilprice reports the global diesel crunch lasting well into 2027 because Middle East product exports have crashed. The EIA STEO puts Brent at **$104 for November**, $1.18 above the market, and $72 for December 2027.

## Geopolitics & Disruptions

> Peace headlines are tradeable air pockets, not a regime change; fade any sell-off that has no Hormuz volume behind it.

**The market is pricing a diplomatic exit that the ground reality does not support.** The US struck Iran's Qeshm Island on Monday while Vance talked up a negotiated settlement, and Tehran dismissed the peace-talk reports. Gcaptain describes a Hormuz standoff in which Tehran's intermittent strikes on commercial vessels continue. Rystad says Hormuz flows are **unlikely to return to pre-war levels**, with at best a limited US-Iran deal by **mid-2027**. Houthi ground incursions into Saudi Arabia are a fresh escalation after near-daily drone and missile launches since September. Iran's war has doubled Egypt's LNG bill and tripled oilfield-services logistics costs in the Gulf. Even a signed deal would not quickly restore capacity or refined-product supply.

## Positioning & Flows

> Length is manageable and the curve still pays holders to stay long; buy into the flush rather than chase.

**Speculators are long but not crowded.** The latest CFTC data (Oct 27) shows managed money long **173,297** against short **73,526**, a net of **+99,771**. Open interest rose **104,272** to **2,606,478**, so money is still coming into the market. Positioning is a week stale and predates this week's slide, so some length has likely been flushed. The curve is still steeply backwardated. Brent runs from **$102.82 front to $86.39 in Nov-27 (-16.0%)** and WTI from **$95.18 to $79.65 (-16.3%)**. That is flatter than yesterday's 17.9%, so some of the prompt premium is bleeding out. EIA spot Brent of **$123.10** (Oct 27, stale) shows how far futures can sit below physical in a squeeze.

## Macro & Cross-Asset

> A strong dollar and high yields cap rallies but do not break the supply-driven bid; use macro for sizing, not direction.

**Macro is a headwind, not a thesis-breaker.** The 10-year yield is **4.91%**, the Dollar Index is **121.67**, and Fed funds are **3.88%**, so financial conditions are tight for risk assets. CNBC flags the midterms, with Democrats poised to sweep Congress, as a volatility event for yields and energy equities. Demand destruction shows up at the margin, with JetBlue raising bag fees for the third time in a year on fuel costs. Majors are putting debt reduction ahead of new investment, with Europe's top six booking **$38B** in Q3, which caps the supply response. Natural gas at **$2.865** (-1.14%) is decoupled and weak on mild weather, so US gas gives no support to crude.

## What to watch

- EIA weekly petroleum status, Wednesday 10:30 ET: confirm whether the API's -5.27M bbl crude draw shows up and check Cushing against 27.0M bbl
- Brent $100.80 5d low: a daily close below opens $95-97
- Any Iranian official response on US-Iran talks over the next 24-48h, plus further US strikes after Qeshm
- Houthi activity on the Saudi border and any hit on Saudi export infrastructure this week
- US midterm results overnight into Wednesday: energy policy, Treasury yields and the dollar reaction at the Asia open

## Risks to the view

- A credible US-Iran ceasefire framework that sends Brent toward $95 (possible)
- Further US yield and dollar strength from midterm repricing, hitting risk assets and crude demand (possible)
- Hormuz or Saudi infrastructure strike that spikes Brent above $114 (tail risk)

## Outlook

Brent should hold $100-$105 through the week and push back toward $110 over the next 2-3 weeks as US draws and the diesel shortage reassert themselves. The 16% backwardation and $94 distillate crack signal that physical tightness outweighs diplomatic noise. A daily close below $100.80 would invalidate the view.
